Abstract

It has been established that the development of communicative culture occurs throughout a person’s life and activities. The skills that contribute to effective communicative interaction with others in professional settings depend on the specialist’s level of education, personal qualities, moral principles, values, and knowledge of communicative culture. The ability to optimally and purposefully structure the process of communication with others contributes to an individual’s professional development.

Communicative culture helps to appropriately use communication techniques at both verbal and nonverbal levels, adhere to ethical norms, coordinate one’s activities with others, effectively discuss workplace issues, and choose appropriate communication strategies for constructive interaction under conditions of emotional tension. Specialists with a low level of communicative culture may encounter communication barriers, crises, manipulation, and similar challenges.

An elective course, “Language Etiquette of Business Communication”, is presented and recommended for students to study in order to develop communicative culture in future engineers; the content and advantages of the course are described. Increasing the effectiveness of professional activity is possible provided that a specialist has a high level of communicative culture.
